Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2026
Sidequick is built with privacy as a default. Almost everything stays on your machine.
Who we are
Sidequick is an independent app developed and maintained by a sole developer based in the United Kingdom. If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at business.mirzabaig@gmail.com.
What stays on your device
Everything you create in Sidequick — your projects, quests, notes, progress, streaks, and XP — is stored locally on your machine using SQLite. This data never leaves your device and we have no access to it whatsoever.
Your AI API key (Anthropic or OpenAI) is stored locally on your device only. We never see it, store it, or transmit it. It is sent directly from your machine to the AI provider of your choice when generating quests.
Anonymous analytics
To help improve Sidequick we collect anonymous usage analytics via PostHog. This is enabled by default but can be disabled at any time in Settings.
What we collect:
- App opened
- Project created (category and scope only — never your project name or description)
- Quest completed (XP awarded, current streak length)
- Project completed (total quests, days taken)
- Streak broken (streak length at time of break)
- Streak milestone reached
- AI generation failed (error type only)
- API key configured (boolean only — we never see the key itself)
- Approximate country (derived from your IP address — see below)
- Operating system (Windows, Mac, or Linux)
- App version
- Days since installation
What we never collect:
- Your name, email, or any personal identifiers
- Project names, descriptions, or quest content
- Your AI API key
- Any free text you have typed
- Precise location
Anonymous install ID
Each installation is assigned a random UUID to distinguish sessions. This ID is generated on your device and is not linked to you personally in any way. You can find your install ID in Settings if you ever need to request data deletion.
IP address and location
PostHog collects your IP address solely to determine your approximate country of origin for aggregate analytics. This helps us understand which countries use Sidequick most, which informs product and localisation decisions.
Your IP address is not stored beyond this derivation and is not linked to your anonymous install ID. We never store your precise location, city, or anything more granular than country level.
IP address is considered personal data under GDPR. We process it on the lawful basis of legitimate interests — specifically understanding our global user base at an aggregate level to improve the product. You can opt out of all analytics including this at any time in Settings.
AI providers
When you generate a quest tree, your project description, category, scope, and work style preference are sent directly from your machine to the AI provider you have configured using your own API key. We have no visibility into these requests whatsoever.
Please refer to the privacy policies of your chosen provider:
Data retention
Anonymous analytics events are retained in PostHog for 12 months. PostHog processes data on servers in the United States. You can read PostHog's full privacy policy at posthog.com/privacy.
All data stored locally on your device is retained until you uninstall Sidequick or manually delete it.
Your rights under GDPR
As a UK or EU user you have the following rights:
- Right to know — this policy tells you exactly what we collect
- Right to opt out — disable analytics at any time in Settings
- Right to erasure — request deletion of your anonymous analytics data by contacting us with your install ID (found in Settings)
- Right to object — you can object to our processing of your IP address for location analytics by disabling analytics in Settings
Since we collect no personally identifiable information, these rights apply to your anonymous analytics data only. We cannot identify you from your install ID alone.
To exercise any of these rights contact us at business.mirzabaig@gmail.com.
Children
Sidequick is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy we will update the date at the top of this page and note the change in the app release notes.
